Bubble songs in Spanish

I recently translated and started singing two new bubble songs in my programs:

Adios Burbujas (a goodbye song I learned in grad school from one of my mentors)

Adiós burbujas, adiós burbujas
Ya nos vamos, ya nos vamos
Nos vemos otro día, nos vemos otro día
Adiós, adiós

Burbujas en el aire (a translation of this song)

Family Fiesta

When I decided to take a break from doing traditional bilingual storytimes, I knew that I still wanted to offer some Spanish language programming. In January I planned a Family Fiesta for the end of April as a celebration of  Día de los Niños, complete with a salsa tasting and a piñata. Even though since then I’ve moved to another library, I went back for this awesome party!

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom, Vamos a la luna!

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom is one of my storytime favorites. I swear, this song is preschooler crack. They ALWAYS request it before I even say what song we’re going to do. We go to the moon, we go to the stars, we go to Mars or Saturn, sometimes we go super fast and we always go back to earth really quietly so we can read another story.

This year, I’ve been adding in more Spanish to my outreach storytimes, and recently a kid asked for Zoom Zoom Zoom in Spanish! I couldn’t find a Spanish version anywhere, so I created my own. Here you go!

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom: Vamos a la luna

Zoom, zoom, zoom
Vamos a la luna.
Zoom, zoom, zoom
Vamos a la luna.

Si quieres viajar conmigo
Súbete al cohete

Zoom, zoom, zoom
Vamos a la luna.
En 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
¡Despegar!

Bilingual storytime: an outline

This fall I started a bilingual (Spanish/English) family storytime once a month on a Thursday evening. This post is a general outline of the program; stay tuned for more specific program plans!

My goals were to engage with and welcome native Spanish speaking families, as well as offer a chance for non-native speakers to expose their kids to a new language and culture. So far, I’ve had a great mix of attendance, with families from both my target audiences attending. I get little kids, adult tutors from the literacy council, and even 4th graders who then say hello to me in Spanish for a week afterwards.
